WehoLife Launches New HIV Prevention Manifesto and Videos
WehoLife, an HIV prevention project of Los Angeles LGBT Center and the City of West Hollywood, launches their new site this week at weholife.org with two new videos. The project, promoting the tagline “Let’s Get Busy...Fighting HIV” uses funny, sexy video content to promote HIV/STD testing, condom use, substance abuse reduction and removal of HIV stigma.
“We’re continually looking for ways to engage guys who live, work and play in West Hollywood,” says Brett Holland, who runs the project for Los Angeles LGBT Center. “People get exhausted and bored of hearing the message presented in the same way, so we need to always be creative about it.”
The project launched its first video, “PEP Song," which is a cheeky, animation featuring a song about Post-Exposure Prophylaxis, which can help prevent HIV infection if started within 72 hours of HIV exposure. “Mother Knows Best,” offers “five simple rules for a joyful, good f*ck” with drag legend Miss Coco Peru. Future content includes a series of videos and a “Strip Survey” with porn stars Diego Sans and Travis James, as well as the Ask a Porn Star series in which guys can ask questions of their favorite performers.
“It’s exciting to be part of a project that deals with all the issues surrounding HIV prevention in such an entertaining way,” says Dave O’Brien, who produced Los Angeles LGBT Center’s previous IN THE MOMENT prevention campaign and will produce some content for the site. “I don’t know of any other organizations with the reputation of Los Angeles LGBT Center and the City of West Hollywood that are as willing to challenge the status quo.”
Weholife.org features areas for locating HIV/STD testing, free condoms, substance abuse and other resources from Los Angeles LGBT Center and other providers.
